Puppy Bowl X to Feature Two Chicago Dogs
In case you’re unfamiliar, the Puppy Bowl is an annual event that Animal Planet produces as an alternative to the Super Bowl. At kick-off, over 30 adorable (and adoptable) puppies are let loose to playfully fight over toys in a miniature football stadium. Hamsters run the overhead camera, and kittens take the field at half time for a show that rivals that of the Super Bowl. Not really, but it is pretty amusing.
If you haven’t had a chance to check out the starting lineup, you may be unaware that a couple of Puppy Bowl participants are from Chicago. Two 12-week-old Italian Greyhounds, Taser and Sharpie from ROMP Italian Greyhound Rescue, are participating in this year’s Puppy Bowl event. Taser and Sharpie are making history as the first Italian Greyhounds to make an appearance at the Puppy Bowl! What’s more, ROMP is the first Chicago-based dog rescue to be represented at the event.
ROMP Italian Greyhound Rescue is a non-profit Chicago dog rescue that focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing dogs from kill shelters. Since the organization was founded in 2007, the Founder and Adoption Coordinator, Liz, has been on a mission to rescue as many puppy mill dogs as possible, freeing them from the mill cycle and finding loving homes for each and every one. Taser and Sharpie’s television debut is sure to bring some well-deserved publicity to this fantastic organization.
Needless to say, ROMP is thrilled to be involved in Puppy Bowl X. So excited, in fact, that the dog rescue is making a full-day event out of it. For mega-fans who want to meet Taser and Sharpie in person, ROMP is hosting a Puppy Bowl X viewing party at Deuce’s and the Diamond Club on Sunday, February 2nd from 2:00pm – 4:00pm. Those who prefer to watch the big game from the comfort of their own homes can use the Twitter hashtags #TEAMTASER and #TEAMSHARPIE to show their support for the hometown heroes.
If opting out of the traditional Super Bowl fanfare is wrong, we don’t want to be right. For those of you who are with us, don’t forget to tune in to the Puppy Bowl this Sunday, February 2nd at 2:00pm CST on Animal Planet.
